WAILA stands for ‘What Am I Looking At’, and it’s a godsend when you’ve got loads of mods installed. Simply point your crosshair at a block, and it’ll tell you what the block is. This will also work with some mods, telling you which mod it comes from, though with newer mods it can also tell you about the state of that block – how full a tank of water is, for example, or the charge level on a battery. You’ll need NEI to run it.
