PlayStation VR May Be Compatible with PC
Nikkei reports, PlayStation VR may be playable on Windows PC. Masayasu Ito, executive vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment told the Japanese newspaper that the headsets coming out in October may be compatible with PC down the line.
The PlayStation VR is virtual reality hardware for PS4. PlayStation 4 is required to operate PlayStation VR however, making it compatible to a PC wouldn’t be difficult because both systems have many similarities. Ito said, Sony plans to ship more than two million VR units this year. The headset is being made available early fall instead of the first half of the year which was the original plan. The release date changed due to higher anticipation for this device.
This hardware can be paired with the PS4 and its DualShock 4 controllers. The headset is coming with 50 games at launch. We’ve seen sneak peaks of games like Job Simulator and Eve: Valkyrie. Star Wars Battlefront will come exclusively to VR as the game is marketed to help sell the VR. John Koller, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s vice president of marketing, said Star Wars Battlefront will be the title that really attracts gamers.
“We are working with EA, DICE, Lucasfilm, and Disney to try and make that experience something so special and so intrinsic to what’s in many people’s DNA, which is how can I be in that world of Star Wars. Battlefront is going to be one of those games that will really show gamers what it means to be in the world of VR. It’s very special. And just by the nature of it being designed as a VR experience, it’s going to be very different than the PlayStation 4 game.
Star Wars is a great example of something that we will really own during that launch period. But over time there will be games that launch, where we’ve been helping with the development process, that will be most special on PlayStation VR, whether it’s exclusive or not. It’s going to be best played on PlayStation VR
-Koller in an interview with Fortune.com
PlayStation VR costs $399 this price does not include the PlayStation camera peripheral used for tracking. There is a $500 bundle which includes the VR and camera along with other accessories. This bundle is available for preorder right now.
